Students will remain online with their homerooms Wednesdays, September 9 and September 16.  Homeroom teachers will be proctoring the iReady assesssments following the attached schedule.

We are requesting that students keep cameras on during the testing session to ensure appropriate testing conditions.  Additionally, students are to use district-issued chromebooks and log-in credentials to allow for prompt tech support and improved security.

Following directions in this silent video will help our computer technicians support our students remotely or from school. Students should log on using their CUSD credentials, detailing the issue they're experiencing.

Log in issues?  We have two suggestions...

  1. Connect to the student WiFi and let your Chromebook sync with "us."  You may access the student WiFi from the RHMS campus parking lots or around the lobby of the front office.
  2. "Enter" the Chromebook using this unique pathway.

If Zoom links are not present on Google Classroom for Homeroom, periods 1, 3, or 5, please directly email your teacher.  You may also contact the office Monday morning with questions.  Please be patient as we aim to support everyone in this endeavor.

We recognize there are many questions.  We have compiled a short list of those most frequently asked.  See our Q and A here.

For those seeking support in with Distance Learning from home, we encourage you to read  our Guide to Distance Learning for Families in English or view in Spanish here.

As much of our instruction and student learning will be conducted on Zoom, we have a document for all to see.  There are expected behaviors and protocols.  Please read the contents here.

Additionally, we have a digital RHMS Distance Learning Student Handbook this year that features information, including important dates, phone numbers, and the like.

Greetings and orientations are difficult during a pandemic, so in an effort to reconnect with families and describe what this year will resemble, we recorded a presentation for families to watch.  We suggest that you watch the 7th and 8th Grade Orientation.

Today we received confirmation of enrollment numbers and staffing so we will spend the next several days scheduling our students into appropriate classes.  Upon completion, we will distribute schedules and curriculum in a yet to be finalized manner.  We may email schedules to parents and students, and we may create windows of time for students to collect curriculum and the like.  As we determine the safest way to accomplish this, we will share details.  Please continue to check your email.

We thank you for your patience and look forward to a successful 2020-2021.

Make popcorn and grab some soda. Welcome to our virtual orientation... for families and our students!

The webinar will start at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, August 12th, and end no later than 7:00 pm. So that those unable to attend may still benefit from its contents, we will record the webinar and post it to our school website later this week.

We will share some information about RHMS, describe a typical sixth grade day, and explain what learning will "look like" this year.

We have set up parameters where the only two visible participants are Mrs. Vanderbosch and Mr. Cribari. You may use the "chat" feature.

In an effort to better serve our students, RHMS teachers have adopted a daily live Homeroom and a rotating block schedule.  While homeroom is twenty minutes, our block schedule will consist of a minimum of thirty minutes per period of live instruction on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

We appreicate everyone's patience as we continue to work through a number of moving pieces, including enrollment and staffing.  As more information is confirmed, including windows of time to collect materials for a successful year, we will share.

Hello, families! Mrs. Vanderbosch and I are excited to be spending time with you all this year. The office staff is preparing lists and classes, teachers are tweaking their instructional plans, and we are busy putting the final pieces into place. We hope you find this video to be informational, potentially even a little lighthearted, during these times and that you check your emails regularly in the coming days as we share more specific details about our school year.

While we welcome summer, we recognize that this summer is full of uncertainty.... and that is not easy for anyone.

Learning continues all summer long!
To support, CUSD has created Choice Boards... suggested activities aimed at touching upon academics, physical health, and emotional well-being.  The following link takes families to the COVID-19 Resource page.  Under "Weekly Enrichment," families will find suggest academic activities that are grouped by grade level.  Further down, families will find a "Wellness Focus" and a "Weekly Wellness Activities" link.  These are aimed at supporting our students' social emotional development.

Additionally, RHMS has a year subscription to the online IXL math program.

There are also a number of novels from which to choose at the Santa Clara County Library.  It is our understanding they have e-Books as well as potentially curbside pick up.  For more information, please contact the Santa Clara County Library system.

Walking and running and biking are all healthy activities that are proven to keep us physically and emotionally healthy.  There are also dozens of websites that feature at home workouts, such as those based upon the HIIT concept, high intensity interval training.

While we will be working to define the opening of school, we do know that students' first official day is Thursday, August 20th.

As the state, county, and CUSD make decisions that impact RHMS, we will be sharing them via our website and School Messenger.  Please check your email every few weeks for updates.  If you should have any questions, you may reach out to the district office at 408-364-4200.

We appreciate all that you do to support your children, and we wish you all a happy and safe summer.

While we miss the glamor and glitz of a live promotion ceremony, we hope that you are able to enjoy what teachers put together for you!  Go forward, and know that you've accomplished so much!

Be proud.  Be kind.  Be goal-oriented.  Be yourself.

With respect,

Rolling Hills Middle School
