Happy Baskin-Robbins Thursday,
I got a wonderful send off from the kids, which really made my day. Thank you to all of you, too, for the well wishes. It means a lot to me. I have told students that they are welcome to email me anytime.
I wanted to let you know a few things. I am leaving all of the Writer’s Faire entries with Miss Thompson, and she will make sure that they are delivered to the library. Any student whose name is listed below is invited to attend the special reception on Wednesday, May 15 between 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the Campbell Public Library. Those students who have asterisks next to their names have more than one entry being submitted to the Faire.
Expect graded work to be coming home tomorrow. I am taking the Greece tests and packets home with me to grade. It may take me a bit of time to complete them, but I will enter scores into Powerschool from home Miss Thompson will swing by my home, pick them up, and return them to school. Please ask your child to hold onto the Greece test because some of the questions will be on the chapter 8 Greece test.
Where we are going with things:
Social Studies:
Students will be asked to create a Greek business card. There will be an assignment sheet, along with a rubric. Expect this assignment sometime next week. I have given Mr. Gillie leeway as to how to teach chapter 8 of Greece. As long as we are done with Greece by the end of the year, I am happy, although I would like to introduce students to the civilization of Rome. Keep in mind that students will begin 7th grade social studies learning about Rome.
Reading/Literature:
Students will be finishing the book Jaguar. Composition books have been scored up through today. Mr. Gillie will finish reading the book to students. Once completed, all students will be taking the AR quiz on the book. I will be able to see the AR scores, and I will grade it based on the score received. There will also be a final project in Jaguar, which will be completed during class time. There is an assignment sheet that goes along with this project as well. There will also be examples in the classroom for students to see.
Language Arts:
We will be reviewing for the SBAC test for the next few days. Mr. Gillie will be passing out 3 worksheets on the different writing genres. I want students to use these as a review, particularly before the SBAC Performance Task (PT). The PT comes after the CAT. In the PT, they ask students to read a few articles and answer some questions (short answer responses). From those articles, they use the information to write either a narrative (story), informational essay, or an argumentative essay. Students need to know the framework for each writing genre, and the worksheets will help with this.
There will continue to be Homework Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Campbell Union School District invites you to the 41st Annual Richard Ullmann. The Faire will take place from May 13 - May 22, 2019 at the Campbell Public Library. A special reception for all participants and their family and friends is on Wednesday, May 15 between 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the library. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Campbell Library. Join us at 6:00 pm for welcoming remarks by Superintendent Shelly Viramontez, or come at any time to view the entries.

As we get closer to SBAC testing, administration has asked us to pass on this message. Students are allowed to bring earbuds from home (must plug into the computer). You do not need to go out and purchase them if your child does not have any at home. We will provide them here at school.
ELA SBAC testing begins on Thursday, 5/2/19. The testing block is from 10:15 - 11:37 am on testing days. Please put the following dates/times on your calendar:

Language Arts:
*Learn the singular indefinite pronouns (Helpful hint: Words with “one” are singular; words with “body” are singular; words with “thing” are singular.) Examples of singular indefinite pronouns: one, anyone, no one, someone, anybody, somebody, nobody, anything, something, everything, nothing . . .
Math: No homework
