Updated Fri, Oct 5th
Dear Parents:

Believe it or not, today marks the middle of the 1st trimester (6 weeks).  I would appreciate it if you could review the classroom expectations with your child.  I still have too many students walking around (when they should be working), talking out of turn, talking over someone else, etc.  Additionally, I have had very little turnout at Homework Center, which is quite disappointing, considering half of the class had not completed their homework for Language Arts today.  I don’t give very much homework, but when I do, I expect it to be completed.

Some students are struggling on their grammar quizzes.  I think it is, in part, because student’s are not doing the nightly studying that I am asking them to do.  Five minutes is not a lot of time to review each days’ grammar lesson for the day.  I understand that outside activities are important, but school has to come first.  Lastly, the only way to improve in reading is to practice.  Students are REQUIRED to have their AR book with them every day.  They are required to be reading every day.  I have had many students tell me that they are “too busy” to do this.  If that is the case, then something has to give, and time needs to be created to get this reading done.
Lastly, I was thinking about having a backpack cleaning party next week (perhaps, Tuesday) but I am not sure if many students would attend.  :(
