Officials from the State of California will be releasing scores from the State’s new testing system in September, not August, as originally planned.

“We are taking an abundance of caution to ensure that the substantial amount of data we are receiving is properly collected and placed in new files on a new site,” said Department of Education spokeswoman Pam Slater. “Additionally, the department will be launching a new website to display the results and needs sufficient time to test the new site.”

Campbell Union School District (CUSD) students participated in the new testing system, known as Smarter Balanced, last spring. The assessments are computer-based tests that measure student knowledge of California’s English Language Arts and Mathematics standards for grades 3-8.

“We’re glad they want everything to be accurate and complete before sending out the official reports,” said CUSD Superintendent Eric Andrew. “This year’s scores are a new baseline for measuring student progress, and we all want them to be reliable.”

Andrew said teachers have multiple ways to measure student achievement, so they can still tailor instruction to the student’s needs and talk to parents about how to continue progress on meeting standards.  When the assessment data comes in, it will be added to the mix, he said.

State officials plan to release scores to schools in early September, and if all goes according to plan, parents would see official student score reports in the fall. They also caution against comparing scores from the new tests with those from old tests. The new tests are too fundamentally different from the old ones to make any reliable comparisons between the two, they said.

Join us on Wednesday, September 9th, in the RHMS Quad for our Back-To-School Night. We'll begin in the Quad for a brief meeting, followed by sessions in each of your child's classrooms.  Our overflow parking area on the blacktop will be open!!  Drive to the end of More Avenue, up onto the dirt and turn left past the gym by the baseball diamond.

On the 9th, students will be bringing home a schedule and map to follow for the evening.  This is a parent-only evening so please leave students at home.

PTA - Our new PTA board will be introduced at Back to School Night! And a reminder that they'll be drawing 4 lucky raffle tickets for $50 gift cards to Target, Amazon, Starbucks and Safeway! Remember to bring the raffle tickets that you may have received at Orientation Day for handing in all 3 PTA forms (Membership, Donation, Volunteer). It's not too late to get raffle tickets if you drop off all 3 forms at the Front Desk. These forms are available on the PTA website at ptarhms.org and in literature wallrack in the school office.

Back To School Night is almost here! We are looking forward to having parents come through classrooms next Wednesday night, September 9, 2015. Students will bring home the evening’s schedule on Tuesday, September 8. We’re sending this information home a day early this year in order to help parents that come directly from work. We’ll also send home a voice messenger with a reminder to ask your child for that schedule. Our goal is always 100% participation, so we want to help you come meet your child’s teachers by providing schedules a day early, sending reminders, and having the office open to answer questions. The evening will start at 6:15 PM, and end at 7:45 PM.

We’ll also have two meetings that night: 6th grade parents are asked to arrive by 6:00 PM for a brief 10 minute meeting regarding Science Camp, while 8th grade parents are asked to stay from 7:50 - 8:00 PM for a few updates regarding Promotion at the end of the year. Both meetings will be held in the cafeteria.

Finally, I’d like to remind everyone what a pleasure it is to park your car in our multi-level parking garage- HA! Don’t we all wish that was true? Parking here is a challenge! There is no multi-level garage, and there really isn’t room in our parking lot for anyone once our staff has parked their cars! We will open up the blacktop to parking, but please arrive with plenty of time to park your car. I don’t want our parking challenges to impact parents receiving important information from teachers.

See you soon

We encourage students to walk or ride bikes, scooters, etc., to school.  Remind them of the guidelines and laws when riding.  Students must provide their own lock and lock items (one per lock) to the racks provided.

California law (CVC  21212) requires children to wear helmets when riding. If a RHMS student arrives at school on a bicycle, skateboard or scooter without a helmet, we may take away his/her transportation and contact his/her parents.

While on campus, students must WALK their bikes, skateboards and scooters, etc., and may NOT ride on sidewalks or any other area of the campus. (California Penal Code 640(a) (5)).  Bikes, scooters, etc., MUST be walked on the freeway overpass.

Violations may result in a student losing his or her bicycle riding privilege at school.  Failing to adhere to laws could result in citation from law enforcement.
