Rolling Hills Middle School

School News

Updated Thu, Sep 12th

As we currently work to fill our West Valley Athletic League rosters and coaching assignments, we are now prepared to establish additional co-curricular activities in the coming weeks.

This year, cheer will be "sideline" cheer... available to perform on the sidelines during some of our fall and winter sports.  This is a non-competitive program aimed at exposing students to the rigors of cheer should students choose to pursue it in high school.

Carmon Allen, our Athletic Director, is in the process of hiring people to take on this responsibility.

There will be a meeting for students to receive sign up information this Thursday at lunch in our gymnasium for sideline cheer.

Dear Rolling Hills Families,
The Rolling Hills Library is looking for volunteers for our Fall Scholastic Book Fair.

The Book Fair runs October 7 through 11, 2024.

This is the same week as our Parent/Teacher conferences.
I am looking for lunchtime coverage Monday through Friday - 11:00 - 12:00.

I would like to stay open after school from 1:00-2:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, but that is only possible if I can get at least 1 volunteer per day.
The volunteer packet does not need to be completed.  You will simply sign in at the office upon arrival.
Please contact Gail Panus, at gpanus [at] campbellusd.org or at 408-364-4235 x 5188.
Thank you for supporting the RHMS Library!

I appreciate your assistance.
Best,
Gail Panus

We look forward to greeting parents and guardians on Wednesday, September 11th at our Back to School Night.  This starts at precisely 6:00 pm.

Without student supervision and potentially space in classrooms, we would ask that students remain home, but also realize that may not be feasible in a handful of instances.  If that is the case, we will adjust.

With your child's help or the help of PowerSchool, this link will help guide you to the proper locations as you meet teachers.

There is also a map attached to this message.

We look forward to RHMS having everyone's parent or guardian present.

Whether Chromebooks are stowed away during break and lunch or cell phones are locked in pouches, students are already finding ways to increase interpersonal relationships with technology breaks during our school day!

Updated Wed, Aug 28th

Good morning!  While we work to create technology breaks for our students and increase face to face interactions during the school day, we are happy CUSD has worked to find such solutions.

As many are aware, yesterday we worked to distribute Chromebooks to all new students, including everyone in sixth grade and those new to us in seventh and eighth grades.  Student use will begin today in class!  During break and lunch, Chromebooks will be stored in backpacks.

We also distributed cell phone pouches to all students and managed several unlocking locations.  In just under 4 minutes and 30 seconds, we began to bring the unlocking stations inside as students were able to unlock pouches efficiently!

For those students who accidentally locked pouches at night, we will place a station adjacent to the office in the morning so that students more properly store cell phones prior to the start of first period.

As all students were assigned pouches and students have been reminded, first period teachers will conduct pouch checks in the morning going forward.  The expectation is that everyone produces a pouch, and those students with phones, smartwatches, and airpods store the items inside.

Thank you for the support you provide at home for all of our students.

We will send periodic updates as we get further along into the year.

In an effort to better inform our 8th grade families who may hear of two East Coast Trips, we wanted to send some information in advance of this Thursday's meetings.

It is important to note that neither trip is sponsored by CUSD nor RHMS, but like any outside organization who seeks a venue, CUSD will consider and potentially grant the use of our facility to share information.

The two presentations will allow families to hear information on the same evening and make a better informed decision about a trip to the East Coast over the CUSD Spring Break in April.  It is highly advisable to understand contents of both presentations before committing to either.

Contact for both trips follows, alphabetically:

  • Mr. Burbank and Mrs. Ragu are chaperones for one trip.  They may be reached at the the following email, unaffiliated with CUSD:  ECoastTrip [at] gmail.com
  • Mr. Stapes is a chaperone for the another trip.  He may be reached at the following email, unaffiliate with CUSD:  pstapes12 [at] gmail.com

So that families may hear both presentations, there will be repeat performances in the gym and cafeteria between 6:30 and 7:00 and 7:15 to 7:45.

As this is not a CUSD or RHMS school-related activity, all questions will be referred to the private emails of chaperones listed above.

Should there be a conflict with your schedule and you are not able to attend the meetings, there will be flyers for both trips in the office, but not available in classrooms.
