Science

Exciting changes are coming in science as we implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). California has adopted a new set of standards which focus on disciplinary core ideas taught using performance expectations which will shift science instruction to a much more hands-on, project based learning approach.
Our schools have established engaging STEAM education lessons for students, and have begun incorporating design thinking into the educational experiences.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math

Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, & Mathematics—is more than just the subjects in its name. It’s about blending those disciplines in ways that promote collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Through STEAM students discover meaningful, creative and innovative ways to expand and connect interdisciplinary learning through experimentation and imagination. This will help them apply their learning to succeed in real world settings.
Social Studies

State Standards for history/social studies require students to read, write, speak, listen, and use language effectively as well as develop literacy skills through literature and more complex informational texts. Emphasis is placed on developing civic awareness and responsibility, understanding global relationships, making connections between the past, present, and future, and the ability to evaluate historical and contemporary issues.
Spanish
While emphasizing the Common Core curriculum, Spanish at Rolling Hills School encourages students to make connections with a different culture and take ownership of their education through the development of vocabulary and written and verbal skills in a second language. RHMS offers two levels of Spanish. Both Spanish courses are taught at a high school level of rigor, and successful completion of the courses allows students to take advanced Spanish courses in high school.
Special Education
Rolling Hills Middle School has a number of programs and staff dedicated to providing support to all students, including Special Day Classes (SDC) and Resource Specialist Programs (RSP).
Specialized Instruction
Rolling Hills Middle School is committed to providing the resources and tools to make sure every student achieves at the highest levels. These specialized instruction programs ensure that all students are guaranteed an education that's truly beyond the expected.
