Miss Perris' 6th Grade ELA, Reading, and Social Studies

9/28/18

Happy Friday,

I passed back a lot of graded work today in both groups.  Students were told to give this work to you, so you could see the progress that is being made in school.  Additionally, iReady testing was completed today in both math and Language Arts.  We will return to our regular schedule next week.

****Conference forms were sent home today.  Please ask your child for the form.  Some students panicked when they saw that we requested a conference with them.  Students were told that there are many reasons why we would ask for a conference, having nothing to do with poor behavior, etc.  If we thought that a conference was important at this time, we wrote on the form - N/A (no conference needed at this time) and “We would like to meet with you.”  If you do not see this on your conference form, then the choice will be yours to make.  Please remember that we can conference anytime throughout the school year.  Email is also a great way to communicate about your child’s progress in school.  Please remember that your child will need to be at the conference.

GOLD GROUP PARENTS -  I met with students individually to discuss their score on the STAR Reading test (part of the AR program).  I have highlighted the student’s GE (grade equivalent) and ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) on the reports.  I have also written the number of points your child will need to earn by the end of the first trimester.  If your child’s GE is 4th grade or below, this means that your child needs to be reading more than 20 minutes a night.  His/her reading time should be increased to 45 minutes a night.  Make sure to pick books within your child’s ZPD (range of reading levels).

Important information for both groups:
1.  PLEASE return the GREEN science camp forms as soon as possible.  Reminders:

*You do NOT need to send in a payment at this time (unless you do NOT want your child to do any fundraising and would prefer to pay the entire amount).
*Checks should be made payable to Rolling Hills Middle School.  Please write your child’s name on the memo portion of the check.
*IF your child is fundraising, check off the fundraising box and leave the dollar amount blank.  Once fundraising is completed, we will add it all up for your child, and send you a note with the remaining balance.  At that time, you can send in your check.
*Donations will need to be turned in before we head to camp on January 15th.
