Miss Perris' 6th Grade ELA, Reading, and Social Studies

9/14/16

Happy Wednesday,

I hope this email finds everyone well.  We had the election this morning for our Student Council Representative in the gold group.  Although it was a very tight race, our class representative is Sydney Reese.  The alternate representative is Tiku Sharma.  Sydney will be attending monthly student council meetings; it will be her job to report back to the class.  If Sydney is unable to attend the meeting, Tiku will go in her place.  Congratulations to all of the students who asked to be considered.  Job well done.  Green group representatives will be announced tomorrow.  Stay tuned.

Classroom jobs have been assigned to all students!

This should be the direct link to the Homework Email - https://rollinghills.campbellusd.org/perris-l....  If it does not work, please let me know.

Remember, the best way to communicate with me is to email me at eperris [at] campbellusd.org.  I will reply to your email within 24 hours (or sooner).

Announcements:

1.  Please consider joining the PTA.  They do so many wonderful things for our students and for the teachers!  The 6th grade in particular receives funds for science camp, vocabulary workbooks, and much more.  We couldn't do it without our PTA!

2.  Science camp is almost upon us!  We will be leaving school on Monday morning, 10/10 and return to school on Thursday, 10/13.  There will be no school on 10/14.

***There are still several students who have not returned the YELLOW science camp form.  Please return them as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Additionally, the BLUE form (medical) needs to be returned to your child's core teacher. Make sure to fill out the form completely.  If your child needs to bring medication to camp, you will need to bring the GREEN form to your child's pediatrician.  Medication (including over-the-counter medications) cannot be administered without a completed form.

3.  Scholastic Book orders can now be placed online for your convenience.  Our Class Code is H3YRK.  The site is easy to use, but please let me know if you do have any problems with ordering.

Donations:

1.  Tissues, Tissues, and more tissues

2.  Lysol wipes or spray

Homework for 9/14/16:

Language Arts:  We are continuing to pilot our new curriculum, Amplify.

Social Studies:  We are working on our mini archaeology unit.  There will be a quiz at the end of the unit.  Date to be follow.

Reading/Literature:  Please encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes every day.   Reading is part of the nightly homework.  Additionally, please remind your child to bring his/her AR book to class every day!!

***THERE WILL BE AN AR BOOK CHECK TOMORROW.

If you want to find out if the book your child is reading is an AR book, please go to www.arbookfind.com.  Click whether you are a parent or student, and type in the name of the book.  If it is an AR book, it will pop up on the screen.  You will also be able to see the reading level of the book and the number of AR points it is worth.

I have already started making book selections for several students.  If your child needs help in choosing a book, please have him/her come see me.

At this point, all work in ELA and social studies has been been graded and entered into Powerschool.  We have been told that Powerschool is now up and running.  Graded work will be returned to students on Friday.

Have a wonderful night.

Miss Perris
