Homework for 4/12/17:

Language Arts:

*Continue to work on the body paragraphs of the argumentative essay.

**USE THE INSTRUCTION SHEET THAT WE REVIEWED IN CLASS.

***YOU MUST USE THE ARTICLES THAT WE ANNOTATED TOGETHER.  YOU CAN ONLY GET YOUR EVIDENCE FROM ONE OF THESE TWO ARTICLES.

Personal opinion does not belong in an argumentative essay.  Do not use 1st person “I”.

Remember:

1.  Start your paragraph with a topic sentence.  (claim + reason)
2.  If you take information directly from the text (Articles 1 & 2), you must use quotation marks.  Make sure that you are quoting word for word.  Also, tell the reader where you are quoting from.  Example:  In article 1, the author states, “. . .”
3.  When you paraphrase, you are putting the text into your own words.  At the end of the paraphrasing, you need to cite the source.  (Article 1).  Remember that the period goes on the outside of the parentheses.
4.  Remember to explain how the evidence supports your position/claim.
5.  Wrap it up with a concluding sentence (“twist” your topic sentence)

Social Studies:  Section 1 vocabulary, pg. 336.  Make sure to label the binder paper, number the words, and sketch a picture for each word.

Math:  No homework

Science:  No homework

Reading/Literature:

Please read 30 MINUTES every day at home.  Bring your AR book to class every day.

If you want to find out if the book your child is reading is an AR book, please go to www.arbookfind.com.  Please have your child see me if he/she needs help with book selection.

Have a good night.
