Miss Perris' 6th Grade ELA, Reading, and Social Studies

2/15/19

Happy Friday,

I don’t want to give you a lot to read, so I’ve deleted the information on the Sport-A-Thon and Heart & Sole.  I will put it back in once we return from break.  Again, it’s hard to believe that we are in the middle of February!    When we return from break, we will be continuing our unit on argumentative writing.  Students will be taking a Performance Task sometime in March.  We will also continue reading the novel, Jaguar in Reading/Literature.  Lastly, we will continue working on our China unit in social studies.

Most students did very well on the vocabulary quiz but many are still struggling on the grammar quizzes.  Please remember that retakes are allowed if your child should receive below a C.  Not too many students are asking to retake the quizzes.  Lastly, I apologize for stockpiling a lot of graded work here at school.  I try to use every minute of instructional time for teaching, and I keep forgetting to pass back work.  It is important for you, though, to be checking Powerschool at least once a week.  Your child should be checking it as well.

Other than that, encouraging nightly reading is the best thing you can do for your child.  And, they are not too old for you to read with them (or to take turns reading to each other).

Enjoy this time off from school.  Safe travels for those of you who are taking trips.  We will see you back on Monday.
