Homework for 11/7/18:

Reading/Literature:  READ 20 mins. every night including weekends!  A reminder that all students must meet their AR goal by next Friday, 11/16 (end of trimester 1).

Language Arts:

*Study grammar worksheet (5 mins.)

*Study figurative language notes (15 mins.)

*Figurative language quiz TOMORROW (may be postponed if I don’t think students are ready for it).

Examples of figurative language:

1.  Alliteration -  Peter Piper picked some plums on his way to the play.

2.  Onomatopoeia - The bee buzzed around the boy's head.

3.   Idiom - It’s raining cats and dogs.

4.  Simile - Her face was as red as a tomato.

5.  Metaphor - The night sky was a loom threaded with darkness.  (Metaphors are direct comparisons.)

6.  Hyperbole - If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times.  (exaggeration)

7.  Personification - Their trumpets crying, their white plumes flying, and their sabers flashing in the sun.  (giving “person-like” qualities to an inanimate object — trumpets can’t cry — people cry).

*Grammar quiz on Friday, 11/9

Math:  No homework
Science:  No homework

Social Studies:  Egypt map is due TOMORROW.
Have a great night.
