Miss Perris' 6th Grade ELA, Reading, and Social Studies

11/13/18

Dear Parents:
I am extremely frustrated that MANY, MANY students have not reached their AR goal at this point.  I gave students the MINIMUM number of points based on a daily reading of 15 minutes (less than the 20 minute daily expectation).  I also took into consideration that the AR program was not up and running at the beginning of the school year.  Even with this, many students only have half of the points that they need (50% = F).  I have been discussing the importance of daily reading for a long time now.  MANY students admit that they do not read every day.  I don’t understand this, since it is part of the nightly homework.  Unfortunately, your child only has a couple of days to reach his/her goal.  If your child does not reach his/her goal, it will greatly impact their Reading/Literature grade.
I passed back corrected work today.  Please ask your child to see it.  I also made students aware of missing assignments, etc.  Students/parents should be checking Powerschool weekly for low test/assignment scores and any missing work.  Students will have until THURSDAY to get everything in to me.  Students may take AR quizzes up until the end of the day on Friday, 11/16.  The trimester ends on Friday and grades will be due at that point.
COOKIE DOUGH is being delivered on THURSDAY, 11/15.  Orders can be picked up next-door in room B-2 (Miss Thompson).  Students will be available to help carry boxes to your car.  A REMINDER that the cookie dough has to be kept frozen, so it MUST be picked up on THURSDAY.  Thank you for your support!

There will be Homework Center on Thursday, 11/15.

There will be a choir concert on Thursday, 11/15 at 6:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome!

Please remember to fill out the blue science camp forms.  They are due back by Friday, 11/30.  You will need to fill out the green form ONLY if your child will be bringing medication to camp (including any over the counter medications).  The green form needs to be completed by your child’s physician.

COLLECTING ALL BOX TOPS!! If you have been collecting BOX TOPS, Please bring then to your 1st period teacher.  PLEASE put the BOX TOPS in a baggie and write your child’s name/# of BOX TOPS on the baggie.  We will be collecting BOX TOPS throughout the year, so if you can start saving them now, that would be great!!  Thanks for your support.
