Miss Perris' 6th Grade ELA, Reading, and Social Studies

10/19/16

Happy Wednesday,

Tonight, I will be including Ms. Garcia’s homework as well.  Hopefully, between the Homework Email and the websites, everyone is getting the information that they need.

Conference notices will be going out by the end of this week.  Please note that conferences will be held during the week of October 31st and that students will be released from school at 12:55 pm.

Our Baskin-Robbins fundraiser has begun!  All you need to do is head to the Baskin-Robbins across the street on THURSDAYS between the hours of 11am - 10pm.  Tell them that you are with Rolling Hills Middle School, and they will donate 20% of the proceeds to our science camp fund!  It’s that easy!!
Mrs. Panus could really use your help for the upcoming Book Fair.

Homework for 10/19/16:

Language Arts:  There were many students who did not complete last night's assignment.  Those students were asked to come in during lunch and complete their work.  Of course, they were able to eat lunch in the classroom.

*Think about your short story - Review the brainstorming worksheet - Do you know what you want to write?  How are you going to start your story?

*Review grammar worksheet (5 mins.)

*Grammar quiz on Friday, 10/21

Social Studies:

*Students will need to work on their map of Mesopotamia at home.  Mesopotamia map is due Monday, 10/24.  For the maps:

1.  Make sure that the map is labeled
2.  Use the map guide (small sheet of white paper) while working on the map.  It helps to check things off the map guide as you go along.
3.  Tape the map guide to the back of the map AFTER you have completed the map
4.  Check your spelling!  2 points off for each spelling error.
5.  The map should be colored using colored pencils.  Names can be traced using a Flair pen.
6.  Remember that all names on a map are proper nouns and need to be capitalized.

*Mesopotamia test is Tuesday, 10/25.  Students need to begin reviewing for the test by reviewing their packets (pink cover sheet).

Math:  SALSA #2 due 11/2

Science:  Complete heat transfer trials worksheet.  You choose the object for the last two trials.

Reading/Literature:  ***For all students who have not taken an AR quiz yet, they MUST take one by Friday, 10/21.

Please read 20 MINUTES every day at home.  An AR book should be in a student's backpack at all times.

If you want to find out if the book your child is reading is an AR book, please go to www.arbookfind.com.  Please have your child see me if he/she needs help with book selection.

Have a wonderful night!
