CA State Testing Updates

As we prepare for California State Testing (CAASPP) in early May, we want to share with families that we have a unique schedule that provides our students with what we feel is the best opportunity to succeed on this one measure of academic success.

Our testing blocks are after an organized break or recess during the day so that students may have time to adequately stretch and have a snack.  Testing blocks are 78 minutes in length allowing students adequate to make daily progress on the assessments.  Testing blocks are two days on, with a weekend or Wednesday off, for students time to decompress.  And we have a handful of days for makeups should a child be ill.

The block I am describing is on page three here.

I want to share that state testing has an array of questions that are computer adaptive and only within your child's grade level.  Questions, unlike iReady, do not advance to the next grade level standards or beneath your child's grade level.  An important aspect of state testing is the performance task, where students write to justify their response or work.

As we prepare for state testing, we kindly ask that your do your best to have your children prepared the morning of testing with:

  • charged Chromebooks
  • wired earbuds
  • a healthy snack
  • no scheduled doctor appointments that lead to late arrival or early exits
  • and the assurance that you simply want them to do their best on this one measure of academic performance

Should you have any questions, feel free to ask.

In effort to maintain the measures of security California expects on its state test, RHMS will provide wired earbuds for all students. These will be labeled and kept in individual baggies during the testing period, distributed at the start of each testing block.

Students will not be allowed to use their own wired or unwired earbuds.
