School News
As we live in two worlds, delivering content and engaging with our 8th graders this year while preparing them for the high school transition, we wanted to be proactive and share some details about June.
Providing support for four 8th grade promotion ceremonies between Sherman Oaks, CSI, Monroe, and Rolling Hills, CUSD has assigned June 6th at 11:00 am as our promotion ceremony date and time.
While this is a special event for all, we do our best to create balance and grounding for everyone. Some students are undoubtedly excited to be celebrated, while others are apprehensive to walk across our stage. Some students are eager to leave the comforts of RHMS, others worry about the gravity of high school.
Having experienced promotion ceremonies as an administrator and as a parent, I believe it is important to remember that 8th graders are "closer" to elementary school than college. They may benefit from an additional hug or two, just as we as parents and guardians may at this time =)
Families, as we start to determine details of our promotion, we want to share with you the following:
You may wish to mark your calendars:
- 8th grade BBQ after school from 2:15 to 3:45 on Wednesday, June 5
- The 8th Grade BBQ is still set for Wednesday, June 5th immediately after school. Campus will be cleared of 6th and 7th graders as we serve a BBQ to our 8th graders, play music, encourage yearbook signings, play volleyball, and the like. This will be open to those 8th graders who are eligible as we take into account behaviors, attendance, and grades.
- 8th grade promotion from 11:00 to noon on Thursday, June 6
- As coordinating an event of this magnitude, with just under 300 students and what we expect will be 1000 guests is complex, we will have two to three days of promotion practice. Students need to be present our last week of school.
- Students are to arrive on time daily, particularly the final three days of school as we tweak last minute details.
- There are no limits to the numbers of guests students may have attend. We ask that everyone is mindful of parking and seating and that during our 8th grade ceremony, we also have 600 students in their classrooms. We are balancing a lot and are eager to see the coordination and cooperation of so many.
- The front gates, adjacent to the office, are the only gates we will initially open for guests. They open at 10:15 am. Our ceremony starts promptly at 11:00 am. It is expected to last 45 minutes.
- Names are read in an alphabetical order by an array of staff members who have volunteered to do so.
- Our promotees will then proceed towards the gym, where families may meet. Excusal of all 8th graders is at that time and through the double gates adjacent to the gym.
- We ask that audience members are mindful of umbrellas and noisemakers and other items that may be distractions. We want every child to feel valued.
- Dress for the event, as we'll share with our 8th graders, is to be appropriate for an event of this nature, anything from business casual to semi-formal.
- Should younger siblings at RHMS wish to attend, we will need you to contact Ms. Ray at mray [at] campbellusd.org by Tuesday, June 4 so that we may properly excuse them.
So that our students are aware of details, Mrs. Marty and I will be visiting all 8th grade classrooms after Spring Break to share expectations and answer any questions they may have leading into May and June.
We will communicate further details as our promotion ceremony draws nearer. If you have any important questions, please respond to this PSQ.
Enjoy the upcoming Spring Break and what we hope is lots of sunshine.

Update to dates...
[Wednesday, Apr 24 at 11:45 AM]
This is a reminder of some of the details, including appropriate dress, as several students asked us while we shared a rundown of expectations with 8th graders English classes today.
We appreciate so many of our community members who represented such fields as public safety, real estate, art, mental health, entrepreneurship, the medical field, engineering, computer programming, photography, and public relations. Speakers shared their experiences and journeys with our students.
While we balance today with the future, having students begin to consider their passions and potential contributions to society benefits us all.

Rolling Hills families,
If you have not already ordered a yearbook for this year, now is the time! The deadline is fast approaching. Yearbooks are currently $60 if ordered online. There will only be a limited supply sold in person at the end of the year. The price will go up for the end of year in-person yearbook sale and we will sell out fast! The best way to guarantee a yearbook is to buy online on the jostens website or scan the QR code posted in the parking lots on Pollard or More Ave.

Hello RHMS Families,
The Track and Field season will be starting on Monday, April 15th when we return from our spring break. Below is information you and the athletes will need to have read and completed to be a part of the 2024 Track and Field team.
Paperwork:
1. Athletic Physical: The athletes need to have an athletic physical completed by their doctor. The physical needs to be completed by after June 9th, 2023. Link to a copy of the physical: Athletic Physical
( You only need to complete 1 physical for the 23-24 school year. So, if I have one on file already you are cleared for the athletic physical)
2. Athletic Packet: Parents need to fill in the form at the bottom of this informational thread. This gives us emergency information and athletic information for you. ( You only need to complete 1 packet for the 23-24 school year. So, if I have one on file already you are cleared for the athletic packet)
3. Parent Permission slip/ Academic Grade Check: Parents you need to fill out the 1st page and the athletes will take the 2nd page to their teachers for a grade check. Link to: Parent Permission slip/ Academic Grade Check:
4. RHMS Athletic Donation form: Fill out and turn in. Link to RHMS Athletic Donation Form
General Information
1. Practice times will run from 3:15 - 4:30. Monday - Friday ( I am working on a more detailed schedule that I will hand out to the athletes on Monday, April 15th)
2. Monday practices are MANDATORY if the athlete wants to be a member of the RHMS Track and Field team.
3. Our Meets are on Wednesday's at Westmont High School with a 3:45 start. There is not a dedicated end time because it is a Track and Field meet. You complete all the events and when we get them all in we are done.
4. Track and Field spike shoes. I would suggest getting track and field spike shoes for the season because we are fortunate to use Westmonts facilities and their performance will improve with a spike shoe compared to just basic athletic shoe. Expect for the shot put/ discus throwers do not need spikes.
5. We will host some of our practices at Westmont High School. This will be on the master schedule I am putting together.
6. We will be looking for parent support to help run the Track and Field meets at Westmont. Please feel free to email me if you would like to help out. callen [at] campbellusd.org
Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions please email Carmon Allen at callen [at] campbellusd.org
Sincerely
Carmon Allen
