Principal's Corner Mar 30, 2016
As you might have recently heard, there’s been discussion around designating Rolling Hills a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) school. In reality, we started down the path of visual and performing arts last year, when we hired a drama teacher. We went that route after really taking a look at our student community and their interests. Our school plays are extremely popular, and many of our students participate in plays and musical performances outside of school hours. Bringing that aspect of their lives into school and encouraging other students that might not have considered those avenues of expression seemed to fit with our RHMS family.
Our band program has been highly regarded for many years in our community. As many parents know, we have sometimes had waiting lists for band. We will continue to look for ways to expand our performing arts for our students, so there is choice along with opportunity. Middle school is all about exploration, and we don’t want to limit our children to only one type of performance.
Yes, we might be designated a VAPA school. For us, it’s not so much a change, as an acknowledgement of what already exists at RHMS. And we thank all our families for their participation and support of all our programs.
