Join the Campbell Union School District community in celebrating 12 talented student authors at the District’s 15th Annual Rising Young Authors awards, October 18, 2017, at 7 p.m., at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Stevens Creek Blvd., in San Jose.
The Rising Young Authors are a select group of students whose short stories, essays, research papers and poems were among hundreds entered in the District’s annual Writing Faire last May. After the Writing Faire, judges review eligible entries to select one Author of the Year per school to receive the Rising Young Author award in the fall.
The student authors will speak to the audience about their award-winning books and, later, they will autograph copies for fans who bring copies with them to the event.
Meet the authors. See their work.
Bring a copy to the event for autograph.

Project Cornerstone is actively seeking parent volunteers for our classrooms.
Be part of a dynamic team of parents working on building social-emotional skills and anti-bully behavior in all our kids. Join our Project Cornerstone team at our first meeting this Wednesday, Sept. 20, 8:45am!
As an in-class presenter, It only takes about 2-3 hours a month of your time:
- one team meeting and training on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 8:45am - 10am
- one hour presenting a pre-drafted lesson to students in class
- one hour of preparing the pre-set lesson plan on your own time
If you need a shorter time commitment, consider volunteering during lunch recess at our FunZone and help take Cornerstone values to the campus.
Either way, please contact Gini Bellawala now at gini [at] bellawala.com with your grade level interest. Or talk to any of our team leaders: Nedda Ashjaee, Anna Maria White or Amy Dalziel.
We'll be having a rally this Friday afternoon during the last hour of the school day. Students are encouraged to show their RHMS Golden Eagles spirit and wear our school colors -- green & gold!
Lunchtime for all grades will be 11:55. School start and dismissal times are our regular times. If you will be picking up your student early for an appointment at that time, please call Ms. Howard in our attendance office in the morning so we may easily get your student from the rally. 408-364-4235, x5158
Go Eagles!!!!!

At RHMS, we pride ourselves on our “Good Neighbor” policy. Safeway, one of our largest neighbors, has agreed to continue our neighborhood partnership after school. Our agreed upon guidelines are as follows:
- Please use the side parking lot of Safeway for pick-up after school
- Please pick up by 3:30 to avoid students lingering in front of the store
- No more than 2 students at a time will be allowed into the store
- If you need something, please accompany your child into the store
Our parking lot can be very crowded, and the lines can be long. We appreciate Safeway’s understanding and assistance in helping our parents retrieve their children.
Safety is always a focus for our students coming to and from school. Children crossing More Avenue, either to meet their parents or walk home, are reminded of the following guidelines:
- Cross only in the crosswalks with the Crossing Guards
- Always following the Crossing Guards’ instructions- they are employees of the Campbell Police Department
- Walk bicycles and scooters while in the crosswalk
Students riding bicycles/scooters have guidelines also. They are:
- Always wear your helmet. Hanging on the handlebars doesn’t count-it’s the law.
- Walk bicycles/scooters while on campus.
- Walk bicycles/scooters when on the catwalk- there are too many pedestrians to ride safely
- Look both ways when coming off the ramp of the catwalk- there are cars at that point.
- The bicycle rack is crowded (we’re trying to find more space for another rack). Park you bike carefully, taking up only one slot. And please, lock your bicycle/scooter.
Thank you for helping keep our kids safe,
Cynthia L Dodd
