Rolling Hills Middle School

Principal's Message - Jan 10, 2019

Welcome back to school and a new calendar year.  We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating vacation.  We are thrilled to see happy faces and hear cheerful laughs populate our campus.

Professional Development Day

Teachers spent the last day of December in professional development discussing essential standards, engagement strategies targeting all learners, assessment, and writing strategies.  Based upon feedback, we had a successful day and are ready to implement lessons and units that offer a breadth of quality instruction and learning.

Bike Racks

We are pleased to share that after conversations with CUSD, an additional bike rack will soon be added adjacent to the M Wing.  Closer to the catwalk, several dozen students may safely park there in early February.  While this back rack will be on campus and within our gates, it is important that students securely lock their bikes to prevent theft.

iReady

Whereas in previous years iReady was assigned during three windows, middle school students now have only two windows.  The upcoming window is the week of January 28th , and it will mirror our Fall schedule.  So that no curricular area is adversely affected, all periods will be decreased by several minutes so that a schoolwide testing period may be created.  As it is students who take the assessments, we will provide them the option of which assessment to initially take, ELA or Math, and they may even toggle between subjects until completion.

It is important to remember that the online iReady assessment is one way in which we measure academic growth and achievement.  Collaborative projects, individual presentations, and essays are additional ways in which students may provide evidence of achievement.  The results of the second iReady assessments will be used by teachers to track progress and make adjustments to instruction.

PTA

There is a PTA Association meeting Wednesday, January 16th at 7:00 pm in the RHMS Staff Room, an RHMS Dining Night at the Westgate Chipotle on January 22nd, and a Goodwill donation day on January 27th off the Pollard Loop.  Please log onto https://www.ptarhms.org/ for more details about how to support the PTA as it works to support over 1,000 RHMS students.
