Rolling Hills Middle School

Principal's Corner April 21, 2016

We’re looking forward to see all our parents at this Thursday evening’s Social Media presentation. Yes, this is a parent evening, not intended for students- they’ve had their presentation during the day.  There will be time for questions and discussion at the end of the presentation. Parents that attend will receive a “5 minute early out” pass for their children to use at lunch any day next week.

SBAC starts next week. This year’s schedule is shorter than last year’s timeline. Accompanying this newsletter is the adjusted bell schedule along with the testing schedule that lists the specific days each subject will be tested. This schedule is also posted on our school website. We’ll be going to a block schedule four days of the week and keeping Wednesdays the same. Wednesdays will be used for make-ups.

The block schedule (112 minutes each class) will ensure ample time for your child to finish this new style of testing uninterrupted and without the distraction of school bells. The format will be:

  • Monday periods 1,2,3

  • Tuesday periods 4,5,6

  • Wednesday regular
shortened days, period
1-6

  • Thursdays 1,2,3

  • Friday periods 4,5,6

As always please help your child be successful during testing by following these guidelines:

  • Drink plenty of water (helps the brain process information)
  • Eat a good breakfast
  • No high energy drinks
  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Take your time and think
  • Believe in yourself

Thank you to Mr. Rawlinson for entertainment he’s provided here at RHMS. Highlight of the last rally was listening to the RHMS Jazz band! They wowed the crowd with both their poise and musical skill. Last week, was another amazing concert by all three RHMS bands- beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Congratulations to all our music students for a job well done!

Another big thank you to all of our school community for supporting our book faire, especially our parent volunteers. The profits will go directly back to purchase books for our library. The more we are able to purchase on a regular basis, the more current our books are for our students! Students at RHMS LOVE having the latest bestsellers at their fingertips! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
