Principal's Corner

Safety first! We recently had a child fall in the crosswalk here at school due to the pushing and shoving that happens when large crowds of kids cross over to be picked up at Safeway. Please remind your children to be careful of those smaller and younger. Encourage your child to help by paying attention to those around them when they cross the street or catwalk, follow the instructions of the crossing guards, walk their bikes over the catwalk and across the streets, and to show patience. Not everything in life is a race.

Bike safety can always use reminders. Students have been wonderful this year about wearing their helmets! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now if we can just get them to ride “with traffic” and not against it, our students would be that much safer. When riding a bicycle, you always ride in the direction of traffic. Riding on the wrong side of the street puts you in the opposite direction of cars that are turning on to the street- which increases the chances of a driver not seeing you as they make that right hand turn. Please discuss this potentially dangerous issue with your child.

And last but not least, please remember to show patience when picking up your child in our various parking lots. I know it takes a while to get through the crowd, but a car trying to cut through the line and pass others only creates an unsafe environment. As we always say “All kids are our kids”. Lets watch out for all our kids and drive safely.

Have a great weekend,
