New Family Orientation June and August

We welcomed 300 guests to campus this morning! Attached is our New Family Orientation Slideshow. It contains important information to review.

New Family Orientation June and August

Whether our bell schedule, a list previous club offerings, the format of our day, or our district cell phone policy, this slideshow shares information that new families ask.

The next orientation will be on Friday, August 7, and much more student-centric.  Students will receive their schedules, meet with our Leadership Class, tour campus, play games, and begin to meet new people from all of our elementary schools.  This will run from approximately 9:00 to noon for students.  Students may bike or scooter here or be dropped off.

Those who are out of town may come to our office after August 7th to collect schedules and take a self-guided tour of campus.  We will not provide schedules earlier than the 7th.

Parents who may have missed the June 18th presentation that reviewed the slideshow above, may attend a parent presentation on Friday, August 7 from 11:00 to noon.  The presentation will be strikingly similar, if not the same, as the on on June 18th.

Once our new sixth grades "appear" in our PowerSchool system, we will send a Google Form to all families as an RSVP.  This will provide us numbes so that we may prepare our Leadership students to guide students through the three hour day.

Celebrations!

Celebrating our Teacher, Classified Employee, and Volunteer of the Year.

Celebrations!

Shelly Biggs is our Teacher of the Year.  She has passionately taken on the role of ELD teacher and influencer at RHMS.  Seeing the need to better support our EL population, she applied for and received a waiver to begin this important work two years ago.  With a year of student success under her belt, she studied hard to receive the credential that allows her to continue this undertaking.

Coming from an elementary school setting, she has the compassion to address the SEL needs of middle school aged students, as well as the instructional strategies to be highly effective.  Evidence of her skills include the rate at which we exit students from our ELD program.

Shelly is all about Continuous Improvement, modeling the acquisition of student feedback and PDSA cycles that show significant student growth in writing and reading.  Her student achievement data is some of the best produced at RHMS.

Shelly is also visible outside of the classroom.  She is a member of our Leadership Team, determining next best steps for our site, and she serves as a formal BTSA and informal support to new and veteran teachers alike.  She checks in on colleagues, opens her room for peer observations, and brainstorms solutions to complex issues, large and small.

Leesa Kirkish is our Classified Employee of the Year.  She works with our most needy population of students.  While commitment is necessary, Leesa exudes three more Cs, compassion, calm, and consistency.

Leesa is reliable, supporting the uniqueness of each individual child, and she balances flexibility and firmness so that students are prepared to succeed.  She has an empathetic soul and a passion to accentuate the best in every child with whom she works.

Christine Millar is our Volunteer of the Year.  She has been an active member of our RHMS PTA Board all three years her son has been enrolled here.  Christine exudes the values we aim to leverage here at RHMS, and we are grateful for her positivity and hands-on approach, including volunteering at our Sport-a-Thon, finding ways to enhance promotion, and decorating our Staff Room to brighten our days.

Literally a moment into any conversation with Christine, there is clear evidence that she genuinely cares for our greater Rolling Hills community… its students, its families, and staff.

More Thankful PTA Support

Our students are the happy recipients of a generous donation from our RHMS PTA to purchase updated equipment for our Cardio Room.

More Thankful PTA Support

RHMS PTA recently approved of $7000 to help supplement the purchase of new equipment for the Physical Education Department's Cardio Room.  Our 7th and 8th graders have access to physical fitness at all times of the year; if it rains or is too hot, students may utilize this amazing space!  New eliptical trainers and wind resistance bikes have added much to our program.

Thank you, RHMS PTA

RHMS PTA has been a strong supporter of our after school clubs, approving of $10,000 to help staff an array of offerings.

Thank you, RHMS PTA

Our second round of clubs starts next week.  Whether badminton, art and illustration, jazz band, yearbook, disc golf, tabletop gaming, speech and debate, running, or soccer and speed, we offer a wealth of opportunities for students to be with peers and staff or community volunteers in a positive environment.

On Mondays and Thursdays, we also proudly offer Homework Center staffed by at least two teachers and sometimes as many as five, while ELD Homework Club is on Tuesdays, staffed by two teachers.

On behalf of our students, we greatly appreciate our RHMS PTA's support.

Celebrating the Class of 2026

Campbell Union School District sends the class of 2026 off with well wishes and a solid foundation.

Congratulations to the class of 2026! Campbell Union School District proudly promoted 607 eighth graders. This accomplished class had 23 seals of biliteracy (total biliteracy attainment) and 19 pursuit of bilingual certificates awarded by the Santa Clara County Office of Education, had the first co-ed flag football team, were the first class - beginning in TK - to have Dr. Viramontez as their superintendent for their entire academic journey, and had 274 students exceeding grade-level standards in English and Math per the 2024-25 California Smarter Balance assessment. However, we know their highlight reel does not stop there.

Although the rising freshmen will be attending a variety of high schools, we send them off with the warmest of wishes and a strong foundation of inquiry and curiosity, a growth mindset, and student agency. We know the class of 2026 is going to accomplish amazing things.
