This week, we will finish up the online activities for "Life in the West", and then spend the rest of the week learning about the reformers of the mid-19th century (Chapter 17). We will have a short assessment for this chapter, which will not be due until early next week.

This week, we will finish up our study of Manifest Destiny (Chapter 15), then spend four days on "Life in the West" (Chapter 16). There will be a simple assessment for Chapter 15, which I am handing out today. For Chapter 16, you will be completing an online activity, which will count as your assessment for this chapter. You will be turning it in via Google Classroom.

Welcome back from break! This week, we'll be learning about "manifest destiny" and how the United States became a country that stretched "from sea to shining sea". Next week, we'll be covering related subjects (Life in the West and Mexicano contributions to American culture).

This week, we'll learn about Andrew Jackson and Jacksonian Democracy (Chapter 14 in the book). The assessment for this chapter will be a project and an accompanying paragraph. The project explanation and rubric are attached here. It is due on Monday, February 27 (after the break). However, students should begin working on it this week!

This week, we will continue our study of immigration in the United States. We will be reading and analyzing immigrant stories, creating poems to reflect those stories, and taking a virtual tour of Ellis Island. We will wrap up our study of immigration by learning about the Statue of Liberty.
Remember!!! Family Legacy presentations are this week. Be prepared and make sure you know what day you are presenting!

This week, we will finish up our study of early foreign policy in the United States. We will have a test on Monday. Retakes for the test will be on Tuesday at lunch.
Next, we will launch into a two week exploration of immigration and the United States. Students will be exploring their own family histories, and presenting a "Family Legacy" speech to the class. Sign ups for time slots/ days will begin on Tuesday. Extra credit will be given to those who sign up for early slots. The assessment for this unit will be your presentation.

Tuesday, 1/31- Retake for Ch. 12 test, at lunch

Hi all! It's good to be back! Here's this weeks plan:
This week, we will have a test on Chapter 11 on Monday, and then begin Chapter 12 on Tuesday. We will have another test on Monday of next week. We will be moving fairly quickly for the next couple of weeks, so stay up to date!

Due to my leave of absence (I had surgery over the holidays), I will not be posting on my website for three weeks. If you are a student, remember to write in your planner every day! Parents, please remind your student to write in his or her planner every day!

This week, we'll wrap up our study of the Constitution. We will continue our "Constitution Law Exam" activity on Monday, review on Tuesday, and have a test on Wednesday. We'll begin our study of the Bill of Rights on Thursday and Friday.
