RHMS Recreation Sports Club — Fridays.  Meet on the black top from 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm.  Starting 2/2 - 3/9 (end of trimester 2).  A permission slip is required to participate (blue).  Please see Miss Perris for a permission slip.  There is a $25.00 participation fee (tax deductible); scholarships are available as well.  Games played:  3v3 basketball, basketball shooting and dribbling drills/competitions, soccer, kickball, capture the flag, pingpong, and ultimate bosu-ball (like ultimate Frisbee, but with a giant, inflated exercise ball).
 
Please make sure that your child is reading every night for at least 30 minutes.  All of the glitches have been worked out of the AR program, so students should be taking a quiz immediately upon completion of their book.

Language Arts (Perris only):  We have begun our unit on informational essay writing.  Students will be asked to write a 5 paragraph essay on a particular topic — Dry Tortugas National Park.  Students will be given 3 articles from which to gather information for the topic.  Students were given a framework from which to work with — this is a GUIDE.  Students must always have this framework out when they are working on the essay.

The CIA is collecting gift cards for needy families in our community.  Some stores to consider would be:  Safeway, Target, Walmart, Lucky, etc.  Any denomination is welcomed!  Gift cards are due by December 21.  Thank you as always for your support.

We are having our 1st Annual 6th grade Movie Afternoon TOMORROW, December 8th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm.  The cost is $5.00 which includes the movie, soda, and a bag of popcorn.  All movies will be supervised by 6th grade teachers.  Movies include:  Despicable Me 3, Jumanji, Elf, Home Alone 2, and Howl’s Moving Castle.  We look forward to seeing all of our students at the movies!! :)
 
Please remind students that they MUST purchase a ticket by FRIDAY BEFORE SCHOOL.  

 

The movies start promptly at 3:30 pm.  Please make sure that there is someone to pick them up by 5:30 pm.  There will be a concession stand open right after school on Friday.  We will have: 

• candy bars ($1 each)—ONE PER PERSON

• Sour punch sticks (2 for 25¢)

• extra bags of popcorn (50¢ each)

There will be a 5/6th grade dance right after school on Friday, December 15th.  Permission slips are required to attend the dance.

Hot cocoa is being sold before school for 50¢ per cup.  Students can purchase it in the Eagle’s Nest.


Candy grams will go on sale in December.  The cost is 50¢ or 3 for $1.00.

Reading/Literature (Perris only):  BLUE & GOLD group parents - Students were given their STAR Reading Diagnostic Report.  They were also assigned a new number of AR points to be earned by the end of trimester 2.  Please review the report with your child, and remind him/her to tape it into their planner. 

Please read 30 MINUTES every day at home.  An AR book should be in a student's backpack at all times.  PLEASE REMIND STUDENTS TO BRING THEIR AR BOOK TO CLASS EVERY DAY!  MANY students have been forgetting!
