Exciting news!!  You should be receiving information from the Santa Clara County Library District.  As a member of the CUSD family, your child will be receiving a library e-card.  If you do not want your child to have an e-card, you are able to opt out.  The e-card will allow your child access to the library’s website.  There are many resources that the library has to offer, including free online tutoring!  Keep an eye out for this information.
The CIA (Compassion in Action Club) is now looking for specific items:  Beef jerky, trail mix, instant oatmeal packets, mints, cough drops, gum, Band Aids, and small first aid kits.  ALL items need to be turned in by Friday, October 20.

REMEMBER TO COLLECT BOX TOPS! The winning class will receive an ice cream cone party!  Please place BOX TOPS in a baggie, along with your child’s name and the number of BOX TOPS enclosed.  Have your child give them to his/her core teacher.  As always, thank you for your support.

Homework for 10/9/17:

Language Arts (Perris only):

*Review grammar worksheet for quiz on Friday, 10/13.

*Students are using a brainstorming worksheet to help them write their short story.  Students will be given more time in class tomorrow to complete this worksheet.  Chromebooks will be used during class time to type up the short stories.
Social Studies (Perris only):

*MANY students did not have their Gilgamesh illustration completed.  Please be sure to finish the illustration for homework, and bring it into class tomorrow.
*We are currently working on the map of Mesopotamia.  The way things look at this point, the test for Mesopotamia will be given next week, before we leave for science camp.

*Some students struggled with the summary paragraph of Hammurabi’s biography.  I have asked these students to continue working on the paragraph.  The student can earn a higher grade if they take the time to revise and edit.  If your child needs help, please have them stay for Homework Center tomorrow after school (3:15-4:15 pm).

IF you want to help your child at home:

1.  A summary paragraph requires only a topic sentence and “facts” (see fact outline).
2.  There is no concluding sentence in a summary paragraph.
3.  The facts (in sentence form) need to be written down in order (refer to the fact outline).
4.  There is no 1st person in a summary paragraph (No “I”)
5.  No commentary and no opinion allowed (the student simply summarizes what he/she has read)
6.  If your child is struggling with run-on sentences, show them how to take the sentence apart, and turn it in two (or more) complete sentences.

Please remind your child to come and talk with me when they are struggling with something.

Math (All):  Complete math worksheet

Science (All):  Glossary in science composition book must be completed by TOMORROW.

Reading/Literature (Perris only):  ALL students must have taken at least 1 AR quiz by Friday, 10/13.  The 1st trimester ends on 11/17.

Beginning next Wednesday, we will be alternating PE and Reading/Literature EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY.  This means that your child will have BOTH PE and Reading/Literature in the SAME WEEK.

Please read 20 MINUTES every day at home.  An AR book should be in a student's backpack at all times.

If you want to find out if the book your child is reading is an AR book, please go to www.arbookfind.com.  Please have your child see me if he/she needs help with book selection.

Have a great night.

Miss Perris/Mrs. Donovan/Mr. Chen
