Dress Code Update

Rolling Hills Families:

After the winter vacation, we will be enforcing dress code regulations for garments that put students at risk.  These risks include site safety as well as safety in the community as they travel to and from school.

1.   No slippers are allowed on campus.  Shoes must be close toed and have solid soles.
2.   Red or blue shoe laces will be prohibted.  Pastel shades and white, grey and black will the the only allowed shoe laces.  Both shoes must be tied with the same color laces.
3.    Team baseball caps in solid black, solid red, or solid blue will not be permitted on campus.  Students may wear sports apparel in the original team colors only.
4.    Nike "Cortez" model shoes will not be allowed on campus.
5.    Students wearing oversized embroidered jeans will be asked to save them for weekends at the mall.  While not prohibited at this time, they are discouraged.
6.   Students sagging their pants and/or exposing their underwear will be asked to arrange their garments in a school appropriate manner.

We work closely with the San Jose Community Resource Officers and Campbell Police to determine the trends in gang activity and those dress items which students wear to display affiliation with gangs in the West Valley.  We do not in any way think that our students are involved in gang activity.  We do think that they put themselves at risk coming to and going from school in the area if they wear things that can be interpreted as gang related.  Thank you for your support.

Principal's Corner

Dear Rolling Hills Families:

March has come in like a lamb today.  Let's hope it doesn't determine to go out like a lion.  Here at Rolling Hills we've had just about enough rain.

Our PTA hosted retired Superintendent Johanna VanderMolen, newly appointed Superintendent Eric Andrew, and Deputy Superintendent Jim Crawford last week.  They spoke about the need for upgrading the Rolling Hills facility.  We are an old an tired set of campus buildings, and plans are in the works for renovating and updating our grounds and buildings.  Watch your mail for more information.

With the beginning of March, we begin our "Sprint to STAR" season.  The 7th Grade Writing Test is given on March 2-3.  Our final benchmark tests will be given during the first week of April.  State multiple choice testing begins in early May.  Please schedule appointments on days that are not within our testing windows.

The time for the Principal's Coffee has been changed.  It has been moved to 8:30 in order to accommodate more parents' schedules.  Thanks to the parents who gave me that tip.

Remember to "Spring forward" next Sunday.  Daylight savings time begins on March 7.  Hopefully, with more daylight, we'll also be able to see more sunlight. Cool
